HMO vs. PPO Health Insurance

Being enrolled in a health maintenance organization (HMO) means you will need to receive all or at least, most, of your health care from a network provider. HMOs require you to choose a primary care physician (PCP) who is responsible for managing all of your health care needs.

A preferred provider organization (PPO) is a health plan that has agreements with preferred (network) providers from which you can choose from. There will be no need to select a PCP and do not need a referral to see other physicians in the network.
